The beginning of the Mayra brand
How was Mayra created?
The Mayra brand was born from a quiet, inherited love – a love for crocheting.
Behind the brand is interior designer Slavica Durković, who inherited her love for craftsmanship from her grandmother and mother. What once was a personal connection to tradition gradually grew into a desire to pass on that beauty and value – through a product that would carry function, aesthetics, identity, and emotion.
From that idea, the Mayra handbag was created – combining traditional skills, contemporary design, and everyday wearability.
Today, every model you see is the result of years of work, research, and refinement. Experimenting with different yarns, textures, shapes, constructions, and materials has led to handbags recognized for their uniqueness, practicality, and distinctive aesthetic.
Each handbag is created with the idea of being beautiful, functional, and special, while preserving the warmth and authenticity that only something made by hand, with patience and care, can offer.

One of the strongest and most personal elements of the Mayra brand is the olive wood handle from my own olive grove.
For me, the olive tree is not just a tree. It is a symbol of Dalmatia, the Mediterranean, longevity, strength, balance, home, and life by the sun, stone, and sea. That is why the olive wood handle is not just an aesthetic detail. It is part of the identity of every handbag.
Each handle is shaped by hand and carries the natural texture of the wood, the warmth of touch, and a sense of something real, natural, and close. This detail gives the handbags a unique character and a deep connection to the region they come from.
When we weave craftsmanship, natural materials, and olive wood from my grove into a handbag, the result is not just a fashion accessory, but a story of origin.
